SG50 Week

We are in the month of August. In about 2 weeks, we will be welcoming September. Yup! 3/4 of 2015 has almost gone by in a whiz.

The reason why August is usually given a little more importance would be because National Day falls on the 9th. What makes this year so special? Singapore turns 50! We have reached half a century of being independent, successful and we are one of the most progressed and developed nations. It's the Golden Jubilee and Singapore decided to go the extra mile in celebrating and reminiscing the past and bringing back nostalgia.

We were given 4 days straight of consecutive holiday and a lot of things were at a 50% discount and some even free. I spent 3 out of 4 days with some of the guys from The NiggAPACHE and it was sheer joy.

NiggAPACHE were talking and we decided to go museum hopping on Friday, the 7th as it would be free. Then, I chanced upon a website that said that the Singapore Arts Science Museum would be free too! We all HAD to go as the specialty would be the Dreamworks Animation. We made our way to Marina but the problem was the crowd.

It was so ridiculously crowded that people were queuing up from the entrance of the museum all the way to in the shoppes. I think it was about 150m - 200m longs the queue! It was just WOAH! We decided to not wait and join the queue to wait for about 100 people before us to go in so we were considering the science center.

We didn't end up going to the science center but did something even more fun! Since we already at Jurong, we went to Jurong Bazaar and had ice cream rolls! This was actually originated from the street stalls in Thailand and I must say the 15 minutes of waiting time in the queue was just worth it! It was simply spectacular!

What was still the most priceless would be Sara's face when he ate the ice cream. So much satisfaction just like a little kid.

Without further ado, the pictures taken on 7th August.

Next up, Sunday. August 9. Singapore's Independence Day! What was given as a privilige today would be FREE MRT & BUS rides for the whole day! All the tapping gantries were open and we practically did not even needed to bring our EZ-link cards.

What we did today was to watch the airshow, some of the tanks and especially the fireworks live! Othifer joined us and because of his eyes as it was infected and swelled up and he couldn't march as part of the NDP squad but I can tell you, his family and of course, The NiggAPACHE are very proud of all that he has achieved already. We love you! And I sure hope your eyes get better! As your best friend, I vow to make jokes about your eyes, still suggest playing murderer every chance I get, laugh my ass off at you! But at the same time, make sure you take all your medications and if you need another eye because you can't see properly, I'm here.

We stopped by City Hall first and had a round of nostalgia hit us with a 90s & early 00's booth. There were so many things like a walkman, a sewing machine, a telephone with a cord, a typewriter, a gramaphone, a gameboy and so much more. We spent half the time playing the eraser game and I must say The Captain a.k.a Luggage was the ultimate champion! Although the best move still went to Aideel with his sudden kill!

Remember how I said it was crowded on Friday? Well, today was waaaaaayyyyyyy worse! I have never seen Singapore this crowded. All the MRT stations near Padang was all the way till Padang was so suffocatingly crowded and there was no room to walk or even breathe. There were so many road closures that we couldn't make it to our ideal perfect spot. Nonetheless, we caught the fireworks and they were SPECTACULAR & MAGICAL. This was my first time seeing fireworks so close and live. It totally beats watching the show on the television.

After seeing all the fireworks and looking at how amazing they looked, I would want to have a mini display on my wedding day if I ever had a chance. That would just be beautiful and oh so perfect.

We wandered around a bit and I was drawn to the sound of drums and we heard this band that even played Bhangra songs and it was really cool! We walked more and saw so many light shows with cool yoyos that showcased pictures like Nick Fury, Marilyn Monroe and even Mario! Hahaha

There was a really cool juggling show and it was better as it was happening right in front of a carnival. I am a 4 year old trapped in a 19 year old body so the moment I saw Uncle Ringo, I knew  we had to go in! We didn't buy or pay anything as it was still pricey but we sure did walked around and explored every corner and every game and ride.

After much exploring we walked out and saw that the LEGENDARY Singapore TV show, Phua Chu Kang which was being played on a HUGE TV screen that we just sat down and watched an episode along with some other people who were seated there too.

The whole day was just as The Captain described it, "mellow" and it was filled with nostalgia. I am so thankful that I am 19. I would say one of the ideal age to be in. Still young but old enough to have seen and known the changes and even lived through them, that it just makes it so relatable.

I am a HUGE fan of coconut water but I would NEVER buy the mini carton of coco life ever again as it just tasted gross from there! Why I added this? Because we headed to 7-11 at the shoppes after all of these and finally called it a day and headed home.

STOP! Picture Time!

Yup! Thanks Asswipe, for taking all the pretty shots of the fireworks. As you can tell from the picture that I was so amazed that my hands were on my face in awe for the whole 10 minutes!

It was nice seeing kids actually having fun. Fun as in those outdoors running and jumping and screaming on who's going to go down on the slide of the bouncy house first instead of who has more Instagram followers and likes and just seated down glued to their phones. It was such a pleasant sight and feel.

Only odd one out in my sandals!

The last segment. Monday. 10 August. By far, the most consecutive NiggAPACHE outing... if only more people could have and would have joined us.. it would have been nicer. But, the 5 of us still made the most out of the day.

It was Sentosa Day today! We wanted to take the cable car because the ride was free but it was pointless because when we got there, the queue was 10 hours! The longest I've heard for rides even in USS is 4 hours. When the late prime minister, LKY passed away, the waiting time was also 8 hours and I cannot believe that a cable car ride queue would take up to 10 hours.

So, we went home. The End. HAHA! No Way! The party does not just stop there.

The guys and I walked from Harbourfront all the way to Siloso Beach and it was PARTY TIME! We swam in the water, the guys... were being guys. C'mon! If there is good looking, voluptuous women, they are bound to have a visual feast. I wished there were more hot guys though! :(

We snacked on the food I packed in my Literal picnic basket and also more of it like snacks and drinks we got from Cold Storage! We even made our own clothing line and Czy perfectly limbo-ed his way under! Haha!

The Captain went all director mode and started filming short videos. Cammy is really cool and pretty but I must say his Canon Camera is SICK! Especially the zooming effects it has! He even filmed a short video of MTV's Crib and I made the perfect hobo! Unintentionally.. but hey! At least I got a role, in his film.

Before we even went to the beach.. Aideel spent his money on one of the BEST THINGS EVER! Cards Against Humanity! At the beach, after we bathed and all, we played and played till we were the last few ones on the beach! It was so good and addictive! It is a most definitely recommended party game! We then left and once again walked back to Harbourfront MRT. But along the way, there were more camwhoring session but what was the most amazing thing was that we saw the Merlion show. A huge LED projection was projected on the Merlion and we were just mesmerized by the whole thing.

So many nice things that Singapore has done, Over these past few days, I just feel so amazed and happy that I am in Singapore and I got a chance to experience so many diverse things which were not only amazing but it felt so special and mellow and heartwarming experiencing all these with these guys.

Like I told these guys in person... I only wished we  few years younger so that we didn't have so many responsibilities waiting for us and that we have so much more time together to spend for exploration, messing around, mini adventures and just sheer FUN & JOY! We are 19. 2 more years to adulthood and then that's it. Responsibilities will keep piling up! I just hope we all would be able to manage our time well and prioritize our loved ones and meet up from time to time. We are The NiggAPACHE and all of you are like family to me. I don't ever want to lose my family.

So, my dear ohana, let's all welcome the future with open arms, a big smile, a great mindset and a positive attitude. Let's conquer our fears and achieve our goals and dreams. If ever, for anything at all, big or small, know that I am here and will always be here for y'all. This, I pinky promise.

On this note, let me end my blog post with some pictures taken before and at Siloso.

PERVERTS! Creepy Pervs! I don't blame them.. hahaha!

Till next time
